- | Name- NEPA Limited |
- | Scope- To be a major contributor and leader in the Indian Paper Industry and make Company viable and self-sustainable. |
- | Introduction- Established in Jan 1947 as National Newsprint and Paper Mills Limited, Nepa Limited is the pioneer newsprint manufacturing company of the country. It commenced production from 26 April 1956 with an installed capacity of 30,000 TPA, which was, subsequently enhanced in stages to 88,000 TPA. The main raw material were Salai wood and Bamboo which were available in abundance in the forests around Nepanagar. The company was operating well till 1991 but cheaper imports of good quality newsprint post liberalization affected the company adversely. As a result, the company started making losses and was declared “sick” in 1997. The mill however managed to continue production by switching over to recycled fibre (old newspapers) based production without the necessary technological changes required in the process. This resulted in running of the company with poor quality of products and lower level of production. The actual capacity utilization level was low at around 50%. Decline in production of sale was due to the problems faced in its ageing plant having higher input consumptions and lower production by increasing maintenance cost & down time. Therefore, a Revival and Mill Development Plan (RMDP) of NEPA Ltd. was approved by the CCEA in Sept 2012 and sanctioned by BIFR in 2014. The RMDP project included complete modernization of the present plant with an enhanced capacity to 1,00,000 TPA and producing Writing and Printing Paper in addition to Newsprint. Government of India is the major shareholder with 97.47, Government of Madhya Pradesh 2.47% and balance with private shareholders, in the company. The authorised and paid-up capital of the company is Rs. 800 crores and Rs. 694.32 crores respectively. RMDP was completed and the plant inaugurated on 23 Aug 2022 by Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Hon’ble Minister of Heavy Industries. The plant started commercial production of newsprint on 05 Oct 2022 on one machine. The company successfully started production of Writing and Printing Paper on 19 Sep 2023 for the first time . |
