Hindustan Salts Limited (HSL) And Sambhar Salts Limited (SSL) (Subsidiary of HSL)

Scope :

HSL: Production of high quality salt and recovery of constituent salts, organic and inorganic  by-products from the bitterns of salt industry/brine.         
SSL : Production of Common salt, Refined Edible & Industrial Salt and Recovery of constituent salts from the bitterns of salt industry.

Introduction :

1.- Hindustan Salts Ltd. (HSL):         
HSL was incorporated on 12.04.1958. Salt Sources at Sambhar in Rajasthan and Kharaghoda in then Bombay State were transferred to company w.e.f. 01.01.1959 by Salt Commissioner, GoI. The main objectives of formation of company were production of high quality salt and recovery of constituent salts and chemicals from the bitterns of salt industry. Subsequently Rock Salt Mines at Mandi, which are the only known sources of Rock Salt / Himalayan Salt deposits in the entire Country, were also transferred on long term lease to HSL w.e.f 19.04.1963 by Salt Commissioner,GoI. HSL is a Schedule-‘C’ CPSE, having 100% shareholding by the Government of India. Its registered and corporate office is at Jaipur, Rajasthan.

2.- Sambhar Salts Ltd.(Subsidiary of HSL):         
Sambhar Salts Limited (SSL) was incorporated as a subsidiary company of Hindustan Salts Limited (HSL) on 30.09.1964 for working of Sambhar Salt Sources wherein HSL holds 60% shares of the company and 40% shares are held by the Government of Rajasthan.Sambhar Lake under SSL is an ecologically sensitive wetland and also forms part of Ramsar Convention.

Hindustan Salts Limited has operations in Kharaghoda-Gujarat,Mandi-Himachal Pradesh and a Sales Depot at Ramnagar, Uttarakhand.         
Sambhar Salts Limited has operations in Sambhar Lake, Rajasthan.

Achievements :

Hindustan Salts Limited 

1. HSL has been successfully turned-around into Profit making CPSE.
2. HSL-Kharaghoda has awarded a contract for a 1 GW Renewable Energy Project in Aug 2022 in PPP mode.
3. HSL successfully concluded pilot project for Algae Farming in FY 2022-23, aiming to create a Centre of Excellence for Algae Farming.
4. HSL initiated project for Seaweed Farming at Bitra Island in UT of Lakshadweep.

Sambhar Salts Limited

1. SSL has been successfully turned-around into Profit making CPSE.
2. SSL has installed captive Solar plant of capacity 1.75 MW at to Sambhar unit.
3. SSL launched premium salt brands named Kshaar and Kshaar Black in FY 2020-21.
4. SSL successfully concluded pilot project for Algae Farming in FY 2022-23, aiming to create a Centre of Excellence for Algae Farming & its applications

International Collaborations

HSL has signed MoU with EK Salts, Israel for production of Low Sodium Salt
